Is motor oil that is noted to be 4V the same as 4 cycle motor oil that is used in snowblowers?
sg asked:
I was told to get 4 cycle motor oil for a snowblower I just bought. The only oil I could find was 4V and the store selling it said thats the same as 4 cycle oil. Is that correct?
I know what 2 cycle and 4 cycle is, the question is whether 4V is the same as 4 cycle.

What you probably mean is 2 cycle. For these you mix the oil with the gasoline. and you want the stuff that says 2V or 2 Cycle. Some 4 cycle or 4 stroke engines do get oil added to the gas but this is not very common.
If you need to mix oil with gas you need 2 cycle or 2 stroke oil which are the same.
The snowblower should have the mix ratio marked on it.
Edit: Hey, sorry dude. Never actually seen any marked 4V. Have seen 2V. What brand is it. I would research it for you.
And for those who have not seen it, ( most folks because it is not common ) there are 4 stroke engines that recommend gas/oil mixes

I couldn’t find any reference to a 4v designation for motor oil. If your engine is a 4 cycle such as a Briggs and Stratton, the recommended oil is an API class oil with SF-SJ designations. The vescosity should be SAE 5W30 below 32 degrees and SAE 30 above 32 degrees.
Don’t put anything else in it. The container will clearly display the above ratings.
