My snowblower is idling low, what could cause that?

DNAphil asked:

I started up my snowblower this morning and it seemed to be working fine. After about 20 minutes it started to slow down, and slow down, to the point it could not toss any more snow. It had plenty of gas, and the snow is cold and dry. Any ideas what is happening?

    Check your battery.

Is it a two stroke or four stroke?
If it’s a two stroke, be sure you mixed the oil/gas right. Then, there are two adjustment screws…one for idle, one for high speed running. I won’t go into the proceedure to adjust it, but it should be in your manual.
Another thing that can do this is a plugged intake filter.
Be sure you shut the choke off after it’s warmed up!

If it’s a four stroke, idle is usually adjust by a ***** that moves the throttle open till the idle is good, or there is an air bypass ***** for that, which meters idle air in at closed throttle.
Again, a plugged intake or choke left on will also cause it to run like that.
