What type of oil goes into my snowblower?
wf6957 asked:
Have a Murray Performance 5hp/24 snowblower model# 624504×5c and owners manual says to change oil but not what type or how much(obviously til it’s full, lol). Should it be 5w-30 or 30 lawnmower oil or something else? Thanks for your help all! And setting up for winter run!

Chain saw oil is for a 2 cycle system not to be use on 4 stroke which by the sound of your 5 hp it is.. You don t need to change oil in a chain saw so you do have a 4 stroke engine.. Straight 30 w is fine.

I use 5W30 in my snowblower. Careful not to overfill with new oil. Some will fill until overflow, others you will have to monitor on the dipstick. Check the engine manual, or visit BriggsStratton or Tecumseh web sites.
As with most small engines, change the oil every 25 hours operating time or once per year, whichever comes first.
